One objective we pursue in following Peggy’s development (the phylogeny) and learning (the ontogeny) is to characterize her representations of things and their changes over time, identifying when possible, the incidents and contexts where changes appear.

Consider this example, Peggy’s experience presented in the Clip Notes Video of Pane P58A, episode A (time code 0:30-00:52).

It appears she has witnessed a phenomenon, new to her, of “boomerang rolling” by the styrofoam cup (it is a right circular truncated conic). Her surprise and delight are shown first by her looking at her Mom to share some aspect of the experience, then witnessed by her kicking the cup to make it repeat its behavior, and again repeating an impulse by hitting it for a second repetition. Discovery of the phenomenon was a side-effect of her examination of the dog’s mouse-toy. It entered her set of possible responses by physical objects when put in motion.

The Challenge:
How can we represent what we see of her behavior so as to exhibit:
how she perceives, thinks, and acts in the world, AND
how those aspects change over time through development and learning

There is no need initially for a “whole person model” of an infant BUT
wouldn’t is be wonderful if representations of structural changes could link together
in chains and cross links if, when and as relatedness could be justified?

What would be hoped for in an articulated action-representation? DESIDERATA:
A facility that could focus on representing “incidents,” expected to encompass:
accepting as inputs both: specifiable agent states and contexts
producing as various output alternatives:

representations of changes in agent structure subsequent to the action:
(in graphical, diagrammatic, or discursive text as appropriate or requested)
