Episode A: |
Bob: Let’s go on here and see what we can do with this word. Peggy: Red, red. Peggy: They call me red. Bob: I thought you said you couldn’t read that. How did you figure out this word? Peggy: Call. And then they, [a vocal call made] come here. Bob: I know what call means, but I’m wondering how you figured out that those letters mean call. Peggy: Because it begins with a /K/ and it ends with an /aw/. And then /hu/ “Hall”. Bob: Hall? Okay. Because this Hall begins with a… Peggy: As in a hallway. As in a [aspirated] /hall/. Bob: He’s home. He’s home. That’s great. Okay. Bob: Now, how about over here? [Red in bed] Well, let’s see. One other thing to say is we didn’t do this last night, so we’re flying by the seat of our pants, right? Peggy: Red bed. I me [for “am”] in bed. Bob: That’s super. You can tell this is me because of what? Peggy: The A and the M.. Bob: The A and the M spell me? Well, usually, we spell it a different way. We say M-E, it spells me. What this says is I AM in bed. Like, I am Bob. |
Episode B: |
Bob: [turning the page] Holy moly. It’s a holy guacamole. Peggy: Holy guacamole. Bob: Okay, what do we have here? Peggy: Holy guacamole. Red. [shaking her head negatively] Red. [2 words unclear] around here. Bob: Well, do you remember this word night? That begins with a N. Peggy: Night. Bob: Night. [confirming]. So we have red… Peggy: Ned. Bob: Beautiful. Peggy: Ted… Red. Bob: Well, look, let’s suppose we had red, but without an R. Or Ned, but without an N. Or Ted, but without a T. Peggy: Ted. Bob: OK. This was Ted. That’s Ed. Peggy: Ed. Bob: As in Ed’s Enterprises. Peggy: In bed. Bob: Super-duper. Peggy: That’s a tricky one. Bob: Yes, it is. It’s a very tricky one. |
Episode C: |
Bob: [turning page] Peggy: [looking at book, saying nothing] Mom: Katie, can you move out of the way, please? Katie: My dad won’t get me a bread. Mom: Just a minute, Katie. Bob: Katie, please stop that. Bob: [to Peggy] Okay, well, is this too tough for you? Peggy: [shaking her head affirmatively] Bob: Well, I think you’re really doing fantastic. |
Episode D: |
Bob: I will say to you that you have read half of this book already. Now, sometimes you think you cannot read because you tried to read Asterix, in French. I can’t even read it in French. I can read a little bit in French, about as much as you can read in English, right? Peggy: Yeah. Bob: You were telling me last night that you can read French words like…. Peggy: “oui”, “non”, “ami” Bob: .. How about… I can read, let’s see, what is it? Sanglier. Peggy: That says “oink, oink, oink”. Bob: That’s right. Okay. Peggy: Le diner. Bob: Le déjeuner. Okay. Well, if we look at these words, we said Pat and Pat. Can you do that one? [pointing to “They call him Pat.” It’s very similar to a word we have back here somewhere. Remember that one?… They call me Red. Peggy: Yeah… [but no words read] Bob: I know why you can’t read it. You got your hat over your eyes. Come on, turkey. Get your hat off your head. Well, okay, you’ve had enough of this? We could do something else. Peggy: Yeah. Bob: Okay, let’s stop the reading. |
