3V0709.01 Color names: speculate learning like number names. (1/1/80)
Peggy played with her shapes box — picking up the yellow star – a five
pointed star extended as a cylindrical polygon – Peggy said, distantly,
“green…green..” as she rotated faces of the cube to find the matching
hole. (When she came to the correct face, Peggy inserted the star
directly in the appropriate hole.)
the pattern of development I see in this use of color names is that Peggy
recognizes a limited but specific subset of color names as referring to
the quality of color. She does not match those color names to colors in
the standard fashion.
I consider this observation shows Peggy’s gradual learning of color
names to be similar to that of number names.
