3V1773.01 LEFT (11/30/82)

All during the day, when asked which was her left hand, Peggy held up the correct one and pointed to the word “Lawler” saying “Left.” When asked if she could tell which was which — supposing I washed her hand clean — she said “yes,” covering the words with her right hand “my left hand”. She also stared sucking the thumb of her right hand.

When asked by Robby about left and right, she volunteered that “This is my left eye.” Robby and Miriam both tried to make jokes and complications (e.g. “right” and “d’accord’) but I intervened to prevent that. They have no sense of how fragile her knowledge is nor do they appreciate that her ignorance is other than funny.
