A few days ago, after school, the older children were playing with blocks in the living room. I asked if Peggy could sit by and watch what they were doing. As they built their fort, Miriam talked to Peggy as she proceded, explaining the names of the block and her plan for construction. Later, Miriamplayed ‘tug’ with the scotty, Scurry, each actor pulling on the toy mouse Miriam had given to the dog. Peggy followed the action for at least five minutes. Last night, Miriam sat with PEggy on the sleepng bag, explaining aloud as she drew a series of pictures – first, one of Peggy, then one of Charlie (Peggy’s toyoy bear) and finally one of Scurry. Peggy was contented to watch Miriam quietly during this 20 minutes of drawing. Robby’s play with Pegg is still prettyy much confined to enteertaining her with provocative noisemaking. This is generallly true, though yesterday he left off the noises for a while and talked at her, asking, I believe, if she enjoyed the tickling he was attempting with her.
