Mom: let me see. You seem quiet this morning, Peggy.
Peggy: [discards the zwieback]

Peggy: [takes, mouths the teething ring]
Mom: You have a little trouble there, getting everything into your… mouth.
Peggy: NVV
Mom: Now, you’re ??-ing out too. Yikes [as Peggy leans far over]. Come on.
Episode C:[00:01:40.08] Peggy: [begins to cry]
Mom: What happened?… What happened?
Peggy: [looks down at teething ring, mouths it, takes it in hand]… [slowly turns, sees her image in the mirror]
Mom: What’s that? Who’s over there? No, do you want to have a look? [holds her up to see better] No?… [holds her still to look and see]
Peggy: [smiles at the mirror image]
Mom: It’s Peggy. [she drops the teething ring] Where’d it go? [retrieves the ring, tucks it in her lap]
Episode D:[00:02:27.20] Mom: [to Bob] Can you see what she’s doing?
Bob: [off screen] No.
Mom: She is investigating the arm of the chair and pulling herself over to get it to her mouth.
[lifts Peggy, rotates her to face the camera, re-seats her in lap] [reaching for the zwieback sitting on chair arm, knocks it off]
Bob: Think she’s after that teething biscuit again? Or is she…
Mom: No, I think she was there investigating the arm of the chair again….
Now what?… She’s looking off in the core of the room, and I can never figure out what she’s looking at.
Mom: Whoa, [lifts and re-seats Peggy]… Whoa. There you go.
[raising Peggy to stand on her knees, singing melody of Pop Goes the Weasel, with final lift] There you go.
Mom: [holding, offering the teething ring] Boy, have you got that slimy.
[pulls Mom’s hand and finger to her mouth] You want to get my finger?
Peggy: [vigorous NVV]
Mom: What? You want to get my finger, huh?…[“makes a face” and lets finger go]
Mom: What’s the matter? Doesn’t it taste good this morning?… [wipes Peggy’s hand dry] There we go.
Episode E:[00:04:17.01] Mom: [Stands her up in lap] What should we do, Peggy?
You don’t look much inclined to do anything. [lays her on shoulder] You need me to hug a baby today?
Bob: She keeps looking at the chair arm. Why don’t you sit her down there and see what she does?
Mom: I thought at that point she was looking at the teething ring, which is right down here.
Bob: Well, maybe she is. Let’s see…. Well, surely she picked it up.
Peggy: [mouths the teething ring, intermittently removing it, then drops for fingers]
Mom: Yeah, hand and (unclear). She had it so that the way she was grasping it, she was getting the smooth portion of the ring in her mouth….She didn’t seem to find that too exciting…. Is that right, Peggy?
Episode F:[00:05:27.24] Mom: Is that right?…[lays Peggy on her back and raises her shirt]
See… What happens if I do this? [wipes dry Peggy’s mouth area] [pretends her hand is a buzzing insect, descends to tickle Peggy’s belly]
Peggy: [raises her hand to Mom’s]
Mom: I got caught by her long hand. [then dries Peggy’s hands]
Peggy: NVV. [turns head left and reaches out to chair arm]
Mom: Are you still look at those chairs?
Peggy [grasps the chair arm end at least four times, feeling it]
Episode G:[00:06:06.12] Mom: There you go, get this out of the way. [patting Peggy’s soles several times] Your feet…. Your feet.
Mom: [takes Peggy’s hands in hers] How are you going to sit with me? [lifting slowly] Up. Up, up, up, up.
Peggy: [brings her head down on Mom’s hand, finger in her mouth and bites] Why? Ouch.
Mom: Yeah, that was your tooth. You bit me. You actually bit me…. How are you sitting up by yourself here?… not bad… Except if you don’t know enough to sit up straight, we’re not going to lean over.
Peggy: [as she leans over, Mom speaks for her: “I’m trying to chew on that. I’m trying to chew on the arm of the chair again.”]
Episode H:[00:07:46.24] Peggy: [starts to pick at, pull at Mom’s watch-band]
Mom: That’s my watch. We can have a nice game of pulling it out and letting it snap back.
See?… See my watch?… It’s not to put in the mouth. It won’t work if you put it in your mouth.
Mom: [notes Peggy saw her mirror image] You seem to be well-fascinated by that face in the mirror. [and as Peggy turns away from mirror] You also seem to be easily distracted.
Oh. Yes, that’s Peggy…. That’s my finger, Yike.
Peggy: NVV (a small, quiet sound) Nyet?…
Mom: Are you do any talking today Peggy? Or maybe some…
How about a few… close labial fricatives. I’m sure you could do so much better than I can.
Now you’re interested?
Mom: Here, [lifting, turning her around] take a little eyeball to eyeball to encourage you to say something.
Peggy: [small choking sound] NVV (~ “oo oo, ee ee” ) [starts rubbing her eyes] [large exhale]
